Biden and Ryan Brawl At VP Debate

At last night’s showdown, Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan pulled on their rhetorical boxing gloves and aimed for the gut. After last week's poll-reversing win by Mitt Romney, Biden and Ryan seemed well aware that their debate would earn a unique scrutiny. So they put on a hell of a show.

Even though Biden referred to Ryan as "friend" fourteen times during the hour and a half span, there was nothing cordial about the debate. Biden in particular went for the jugular, unapologetically defending Obama's policies and interrupting Ryan when he felt his opponent was being untruthful. He frequently appeared to hear Ryan's words as so extending beyond reason, logic and science that he could only guffaw in response.

Ryan returned the aggression, but he also tried to display a likable, human portrait of himself. In response to a question about how their shared Catholicism impacts their stance on abortion, Ryan recalled seeing an ultrasound of his daughter "in the shape of a bean" in the womb. The image solidified his opposition to abortion and produced her nickname "beanie."

If you didn't catch the debate, no worries. There are two more Obama-Romney debates. Catch the next one on Tuesday, October 16 at 9:00 EST
