Obama Answers Young People’s Questions

Full_askobamalive

In a half-hour interview last Friday, Sway Calloway sat down with President Obama to grill him on young people’s concerns about jobs, the cost of education and LGBT rights. In the thirty minutes Obama energetically defended his administration’s record and made the case that another four years of an Obama administration will serve young people best.

One issue that Sway pressed the president on was the swiftly rising cost of college. The administration has made moves to increase the support that students get to pay for college, like boosting Pell Grants. But beyond helping kids pay the high prices, how would he make the prices themselves lower? Obama shared one idea: "We now have to go directly to the source, the colleges and universities, and say, 'You've got to work on cutting tuitions.' And we're going to reward those schools who do a good job, providing good value for their students while keeping tuition low, and we'll stop directing federal aid to those colleges and universities that that are loading up their students with debt."
